The Supreme Court has issued a contempt notice to an Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) and senior police officials for allegedly disregarding the court’s interim anticipatory bail order. The accused, who had been granted bail last month, was remanded to police custody by the ACJM, prompting the court’s action. The bench, comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice Sandeep Mehta, questioned the ACJM’s conduct and warned of potential imprisonment for the alleged contemnors. The notice extends to Additional Chief Secretary Kamal Dayani, Commissioner of Police Ajay Kumar Tomar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone-4 Surat, Vijaysinh Gurjar, Police Inspector RY Raval, ACJM Surat Deepaben Sanjaykumar Thakar and others.

The petitioner, facing charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy, had received interim anticipatory bail on December 8. Despite this, he was remanded to police custody by the ACJM, leading to allegations of assault and extortion. The court’s directions were allegedly ignored, prompting the contempt plea.
