Justice DY Chandrachud nominated Executive Chairperson of NALSA

The Ministry of Law of India, by issuing a notification through its official gazette, named Justice DY Chandrachud as the Executive Chairperson of NALSA

In exercise of the powers conferred under Clause (b) of sub-section (2) of Section 3 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, the President is pleased to nominate Hon'ble Dr. Justice D. Y. Chandrachud, Judge, Supreme Court of India, as Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority, with immediate effect.

President of India Draupathi Murmu has nominated Supreme Court judge Justice DY Chandrachud as the executive chair person of NLSA.

In exercise of the powers conferred under Clause (b) of sub-section (2) of Section 3 of the
Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, the President is pleased to nominate Hon’ble Dr. Justice D. Y. Chandrachud,
Judge, Supreme Court of India, as Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority, with immediate effect.

Hon’ble Justice DY Chandrachud’s image is very honest and he is very conscious of his work.

Before now, he has been the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Uttar Pradesh and has also been a judge in Bombay High Court.

Justice Chandrachud started his practice in the Bombay High Court in his early days, after which he was appointed as an additional judge in the Bombay High Court on 29 March 2000.
On 31 October 2013, he became the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court.
On dated 13 May 2016 he Became a judge of the Supreme Court of India.

After the retirement of the current Chief Justice of India, Justice Lalit, Justice Chandrachud will be the 50th Chief Justice of India 🇮🇳 .

Justice UU Lalit’s tenure will be only 74 days which will end in November 2022 and Justice Chandrachud will take oath as the next Chief Justice of the country in November 2022 this year.

Justice Chandrachud has given or has been a part of many important judgments while being a judge in the Allahabad High Court and currently in the Supreme Court.

Justice Chandrachud’s full name is Dr. Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud, who is currently a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, and will become the Chief Justice of India from 9 November 2022 until his retirement on 10 November 2024, following the retirement of Justice Uday Umesh Lalit.

His father Justice Yashwant Vishnu Chandrachud has also been the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India. He was the 16th Chief Justice of India, serving from 22, February 1978 to the day he retired on 11 July, 1985. He is the longest serving Chief Justice in India’s 🇮🇳 history at 7 years & 4 months.
